Answers to common questions
We’ve compiled a list of answers to common questions.
- How far is the Apartment from the city centre?
The Gardens Apartment is about 7 km from the CBD, which is a 12 minute drive at most times of the day. Close enough to be convenient, yet out of the noisy hustle and bustle of city traffic.
- How can I get from Hobart Airport to the Apartment?
If you are renting a car at Hobart airport, travel to the city on the Eastern Expressway and shortly after crossing the Tasman Bridge, you’ll enter the Hobart docks precinct where the Eastern Expressway becomes Davey Street at the first set of traffic lights. Another 400 m further on, at the far end of St David’s Park, turn left into Sandy Bay Road and head south on that road, for about 7 km, until you get to Stewart Crescent, which is on the right, just past bus stop 24 on the left or bus stop 25 which is on the right.
- Do I need a car in Taroona?
If you are planning to only be in and around the city, then you do not need to hire a car as there is a good bus service between the Apartment and the city. The bus stop is one minute’s walk from the apartment. You can find out more about Metro bus routes 426 to 429 here. Both these bus routes also go past Wrest Point, the university, Sandy Bay shopping centre and Battery Point. If your plans extend beyond the city limits, you will definitely need a car.
- How far from the apartment is the nearest shop?
About 3.5Km towards the city. On the corner of Beach Road and Sandy Bay Road, there is a convenience store called Fresco’s. It’s part of a small shopping centre at Long Beach, Lower Sandy Bay, that also has a Newsagent/Post Office, Liquor Outlet, Butcher, Café and a Chemist. A little further north you’ll find the famed Lipscombe Larder where you can buy affordable high quality ready-to-cook or pre-cooked meals as well as a great selection of fine Tasmanian cool-climate wines, cheeses and smallgoods.
- My flight arrives very late. Can I check-in late and are restaurants open at that time of night?
We have made provision for late night self-check in, if required, and we will send you information about that when you book. There is an increasing number of restaurants remaining open late at night, you can find details of some of them here. There is a more complete list of Hobart’s restaurants and their opening times here. We provide a few complimentary breakfast essentials for your first morning in case you need to check in late and miss the shops.
- Payments and cancellations
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. For stays of between three and seven nights, the deposit is $250.00. For stays of between 8 and 14 nights, the deposit is $500.00. Balance in both cases is due four weeks prior to check-in. Currently payments can only be made by direct deposit or though PayPal. We will discus the details with you in full once you have decided to book.
Our cancellation policy is similar to other small tourist accommodation operators. Your deposit is non-refundable except if you need to cancel within 24 hours and your booking is more that four weeks away. Once your balance payment has been made you are within 4 weeks of arrival and your full payment is generally non-refundable. However, we understand that sometimes bookings need to be cancelled unexpectedly. In these circumstance we offer two options that may help. We can provide you with a letter confirming our cancellation policy for your travel insurers to assist with your claim and, if practicable, we will reopen our booking calendar for the dates you had booked and refund you any proportion (up to 100%) of a booking that we receive for those dates.
- Can I book through Airbnb or TripAdvisor?
Yes you can, but you’ll pay slightly more as they both add a small commission on top of our nightly rate. We welcome bookings from Airbnb and we have also have a presence on TripAdvisor’s online booking system.
